Abercrombie raced from 1977 through 1979 and was Horse of the Year in 1978. His progeny include 11 winners of a million or more, including his son Artsplace with $3- million in earnings. Abercrombie was inducted into the Harness Racing Hall of Fame in 1999. Owned by the late Keith Bulen of Indianapolis and Shirley Mitchell of Zionsville, Indiana, during his racing career, Abercrombie was a slow starter at two, winning seven of 20 starts and earning $49,379 in 1977. In 1978, when paired with Hall of Fame trainer Glen Garnsey, the bay son of Silent Majority-Bergdorf dominated his peers, winning the Adios, Bluegrass, Confederation Cup, James B Dancer, Hanover Colt, Messenger, and Reynolds for 22 wins in 33 starts, earning $703,260 en route to Horse of the Year honors.
Syndicated for $3-million, Abercrombie retired from racing in the fall of 1980 and embarked on a stud career, which produced more than 1127 in 2:00; 412 in 1:55; 7 in 1:50; and stakes of $152 Million Dollars plus as at 11 October 2005.
